9 Mile Run Fail
Location: Started in Venice and ran along bike path towards Santa Monica Pier
Distance: 9 4.5 miles
Time: 44 minutes
Our LA marathon training plan said we should run 9 miles on Sunday. After the hilly Pepperdine run yesterday our legs were tired and we were both complaining of soreness. We decided to tough it out and set off for Venice in hopes of getting through our 9 miler. Venice seemed like the perfect place to go and it was the first time either of us had been there (I’m a liar – we actually tried to go in Septmeber when I came to visit but it was too crowded to find parking and we left. Remember me as I am Venice, filled with murderous rage!). Luckily, on Sunday we found parking a few blocks from the beach and were excited to explore the area.
The weather was amazing (I’m still getting used to this whole California has nice weather phenomenon) and people were everywhere walking, rollerblading (some in speedos), skateboarding, doing yoga, and my favorite: have professional massages. Running together on the bike path proved difficult and for the first two miles Mike and I had to run single file. After mile 3 both of us agreed the run was getting difficult and it would be better to cut it short and enjoy the day walking along the beach instead of finishing the 9 miles. We pushed on to 4.5 miles and then decided to stroll back to Venice while admiring the scenery around us.

By 5:10 the sun was beginning to set and we stopped to take pictures.
Not the best picture but the best one I have. Mike and I both hate asking other people to take our picture so usually we have either solo shots or one of us is holding the camera out for a close-up shot. Neither of which equates to a great picture.

After a fun day at the beach we were hoping to catch a late showing of the Muppets movie. However, with traffic we got home and decided a date at Menchie’s and an early bedtime was the best plan. Frozen yogurt was the best way to end my first weekend living in LA!
